Early the next morning, Mac left. He had spent the night planning what he would say when he faced Kent, but now that he was actually going to confront his friend, the right words evaded him. He was still so angry and hurt, yet he had to go beg for help.

It infuriated him. Needing to calm down, he decided it would do him more good to walk to Kent's house than to drive. He hoped the fresh air and exercise would buy him enough time to clear his head.

Mac kicked at every rock in his path, paying no attention to his surroundings as he muttered furiously.

With no warning, he was airborne, flying backward into an alley.

"I thought you might need an extra push," he heard a deep voice growl. "So here I am to give you a push. I hope you give me a reason to keep going."

Mac cleared his head and then looked up at his attacker. He was used to feeling small, but this man stood well over seven feet, probably closer to eight. Looking up at the giant, he had never felt so insignificant in all his life.

The enormous man towered over him, and Mac trembled as he tried to make himself as small as possible. He was unsure how to save himself, but he forced his voice to stay level as he responded to the man's threats. "What do ya want with me?"

The giant laughed. "You're only a means to an end—a weak link. I kept pushing until I found out who would crack—and here you are."

He reached down and lifted Mac into the air with ease. The smaller man gasped as he tried to breathe, his feet dangling helplessly in the air while he desperately clawed at the gigantic hand. The hulking man was holding him three feet above the ground; all the frightened Mac wanted was to get back on solid ground. Yet although he dug deep into the man's skin, the giant held the smaller man at arm's length, laughing at Mac's efforts.

"Just in case you were thinkin' about ignoring that little lady of yours, I thought I'd reiterate how important it is for you to follow directions. How hard do you think it'd be for me to get to each of your little friends?

"The way I see it, you got two options. Do what I tell you and maybe, maybe, I let you live, and I leave your little woman and sad little friends alone. Or, and this is what I hope you choose, you can ignore me, and I kill everybody else first. Only after I give you time to think about how you should've saved them will I come to kill you. Understand?" he growled, tightening his grip on Mac's throat.

Mac gasped weakly. "Yes!"

He continued to beat the giant's arm feebly as his body went limp and everything went black. The last thing Mac heard was the man's threatening voice, reminding him what was at stake. He stated gleefully that if Mac didn't do as he was told, everyone, including Jimmy's kids, would be dead.
